India credits tactical shift with success in conflict against Pakistan

India Adopts New Tactics to Turn the Tide in Conflict with Pakistan

After incurring significant aerial losses on the first day of hostilities, India quickly modified its strategy and secured a substantial advantage before its neighbor declared a ceasefire three days later, according to the country’s top military official.

The intense fighting—the most severe in decades between the nuclear-armed nations—was triggered by an April 22 incident in Indian Kashmir that resulted in 26 fatalities, most of whom were tourists. New Delhi attributed the attack to terrorist groups allegedly supported by Pakistan, a claim that Islamabad has denied.

On May 7, Indian fighter jets targeted locations that New Delhi described as “terrorist infrastructure” across the border. In response, Pakistan stated that it had downed six Indian aircraft during the early stages of the conflict, including at least three advanced fighter jets.

The confrontation, marked by the deployment of fighter jets, missiles, drones, and artillery, eventually de-escalated when both sides agreed to a ceasefire on May 10.
