US Consulting Firm Ends Contract with Controversial Gaza Aid Organization
A prominent US consulting firm has terminated its agreement with a contentious humanitarian organization established to deliver food and essential supplies in Gaza. The decision comes as famine conditions worsen in the war-torn region. A spokesperson for the consulting firm explained that work projects related to Gaza lacked sufficient support from key international stakeholders. As a result, the work was halted on May 30, and the firm will not be compensated for the effort. Additionally, the partner responsible for this project has been placed on administrative leave pending a full review of the firm’s involvement.
Violence at the Gaza Aid Distribution Site
In related developments, nearly 30 Palestinians lost their lives and dozens were injured near an aid distribution center in southern Gaza. This incident marks the third consecutive day of gunfire near the site, as reported by local health authorities and medical facilities. The Israeli military stated that its forces fired several warning shots after detecting individuals straying from the designated access routes. When these individuals did not retreat, further firing ensued in an effort to neutralize the threat. Investigations into the casualties are currently underway.
Raising Concerns Over the Aid Delivery Mechanism
The humanitarian organization at the center of these events was tasked with operating a new, tightly controlled method of aid delivery in Gaza. Although the plan received approval from both Israel and the United States to prevent Hamas from diverting supplies, it has drawn criticism from international entities, including the United Nations. Critics argue that the organization’s methods risk endangering civilians and could result in further displacement of the Palestinian population.
Further Implications and Continued Operations
The consulting firm’s decision to cut ties adds to the mounting challenges faced by the aid organization. This loss of support follows the recent resignation of its Executive Director, highlighting internal instability. The firm had been engaged since October 2024 to help establish a humanitarian effort that would work alongside other multilateral initiatives to deliver assistance in Gaza. Despite the setback with the consulting firm, a senior US administration official hinted that media scrutiny may have played a role in the split, although no concrete evidence was provided.
Nevertheless, the foundation remains committed to its mission. Its interim director noted that, even under such complex and volatile circumstances, the organization has managed to deliver over 7 million meals in just eight days. He emphasized that this level of consistent, safe, and large-scale aid distribution is unprecedented in Gaza, reinforcing the foundation’s dedication to meeting the urgent needs of the population.
