U.S. Officials Detain Family of Colorado Attack Suspect
Authorities in the United States have taken the family members of the suspect behind an attack at a pro-Israel demonstration in Colorado into custody. Department of Homeland Security officials announced that Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, who is accused of launching an incendiary assault, is being closely scrutinized while investigators work to determine the role his relatives may have played.
On Sunday, during a protest organized to spotlight hostages in Gaza, Soliman allegedly set individuals on fire using homemade incendiary devices, injuring at least eight people. Federal authorities have described the incident as a terrorist act and are pursuing every available lead.
According to details provided in an FBI complaint, Soliman had been preparing for this attack for more than a year. He reportedly delayed his plan until after his daughter’s graduation, a decision that allowed him to fully commit to his course of action. During a post-arrest interview, he admitted that his target was the group of demonstrators, explaining that his motive stemmed from a desire to stop what he perceived as a takeover of Palestinian territory by Zionists.
The indictment noted that he had extensively researched how to create Molotov cocktails through online tutorials. After assembling the necessary materials and devices, Soliman traveled to Boulder, Colorado, where he arrived minutes before the demonstration was scheduled to begin. Once there, he launched his attack, throwing at least two incendiary devices at participants.
In reaction to the incident, high-ranking officials have vowed to pursue the matter with the utmost rigor. U.S. leadership has condemned the attack as intolerable, emphasizing that those responsible for such acts of terror will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Additionally, a top presidential aide noted that the suspect, who initially entered the country on a tourist visa before obtaining a work permit, now faces severe legal consequences.
Federal investigators continue their probe, with the FBI regarding the incident as an act of terrorism and working diligently to establish both the extent of the attack and any potential involvement by family members.
