38 Palestinians Fatally Shot Near Food Distribution Sites, Medics Confirm

At Least 38 Palestinians Killed in Shootings Near Gaza Food Distribution Centers

In the southern Gaza Strip, fresh violence has claimed the lives of at least 38 Palestinians, according to the local Health Ministry. New shootings occurred around food distribution centers supported by both Israeli and United States interests, compounding the hardships faced by thousands of displaced residents trying to obtain life‐saving aid.

Eyewitnesses recounted that Israeli troops opened fire early Monday as crowds gathered outside the distribution hubs. Although the military has previously stated that its forces have fired only warning shots at individuals deemed to be straying from designated routes, the incident at the crowded site near Rafah has resulted in a markedly high death toll.

Most of the casualties were reportedly concentrated near a distribution center managed by a private contractor close to the southern city of Rafah, while others were on routes toward a newly established hub at the outskirts of Khan Younis. Authorities have warned that leaving the specifically marked access roads—in place to keep the distribution process safe—can be dangerous, yet many displaced Palestinians have risked detours in a desperate bid to reach available aid.

In response, Israeli and U.S. officials have defended the food distribution system as a measure designed to prevent the diversion of humanitarian assistance. However, several United Nations agencies and international aid organizations have expressed concern. They argue that the restricted network does not meet the needs of Gaza’s nearly 2 million residents and may be used as a political tool, further complicating an already dire humanitarian situation.

Amid ongoing military operations and severe restrictions on aid entry, senior health officials and humanitarian experts have repeatedly warned that the territory is on the brink of famine—a crisis made even more acute by recurring incidents of violence in and around the food distribution zones.
