A lively family day event at the Ivy Centre in Blackburn attracted hundreds of locals to support Masjid-e-Rizwan, one of the town’s oldest mosques. The gathering was organized to raise funds for a major renovation project and successfully generated an impressive £42,000 through widespread community participation.
Community Involvement and Festive Atmosphere
The venue was transformed into a bustling festival, with the car park hosting a variety of food stalls offering freshly made pizzas, burgers, and noodles. Inside, visitors explored numerous stands featuring everything from delectable desserts to clothing and handcrafted gifts. Volunteers managed these stalls and actively collected donations, ensuring every contribution benefitted the mosque’s much-needed rebuilding project.
Special Guests and Modern Engagement
Local dignitaries added to the day’s success, including Blackburn’s Member of Parliament and the Mayor of the borough. In addition, a popular social media personality brought a contemporary twist by livestreaming the event, engaging a wider audience beyond those in attendance.
Exciting Plans for the Mosque Renovation
The renovation, undertaken by the community-led association, promises to expand the mosque’s capacity to accommodate up to 450 worshippers. The project, entirely funded by donations, reflects both community spirit and a shared commitment to preserving this essential place of worship.
