Two Sunamganj Stores Face Fines

2 Shops Penalized in Sunamganj

Two local establishments in Sunamganj faced fines totaling Tk 35,000 after being found selling expired products and providing customers with less than the stated weight.

The penalties were issued during a joint inspection by the Sunamganj District Administration and the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). The operation was designed to raise awareness among both retailers and consumers about the importance of product expiry and accurate measurement practices.

One outlet, Masum Traders, was penalized with a Tk 25,000 fine under the BSTI Act-2018 for manufacturing and selling bread and biscuits without the required Certification Mark (CM) license. In addition, an extra fine of Tk 5,000 was imposed under the Weights and Measures Standard Act-2018 for not labeling the production date, net weight, and expiry date on their products.

Similarly, Anwar Mishtanno Bhandar received a Tk 5,000 fine for not including the essential production information—such as production date, net weight, and expiry date—on its packaged fermented milk products.

Authorities have assured that such inspections will continue in order to safeguard consumers and ensure compliance with established standards.
