Family Event Nets £42K to Renovate Blackburn Mosque

£42K Collected at a Family Fun Day to Renovate a Historic Blackburn Mosque

Hundreds turned out at the Ivy Centre in Blackburn for a lively day of family activities dedicated to supporting Masjid-e-Rizwan, one of the town’s most established mosques.

Organised as a fundraiser for a major rebuilding effort, the event brought the community together and succeeded in raising an impressive £42,000. A mosque representative remarked on the day’s success, highlighting the strong backing from local residents. “Our dedicated volunteers combined their efforts and enthusiasm to create a memorable experience for everyone,” they explained.

The venue was transformed into a vibrant marketplace. Outside, the car park featured enticing food stalls offering fresh pizzas, burgers, and noodles, while indoor stands showcased an array of desserts, apparel, and handcrafted gifts that attracted large crowds throughout the day.

Local volunteers managed the stalls and helped collect donations, all in support of the building project underway at Masjid-e-Rizwan in Futhergate. Among the guests were Blackburn MP Adnan Hussain and the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Councillor Jacqueline Slater. A popular TikTok personality, Shahid Sheikh—widely recognized as Bawa—also joined in by livestreaming the festivities.

The mosque, which is being rebuilt by the Kokni Muslim Association, will soon feature an expanded prayer hall capable of accommodating up to 450 worshippers. The entire project is being funded solely by community contributions.

Reflecting on the day, the spokesperson added, “Each year we challenge our team to enhance the event and this time they truly surpassed expectations. The care, creativity, and detailed planning were evident in every aspect of the day. We are overjoyed to announce that the event raised £42,000, a truly remarkable feat.”

Special recognition was given to the young volunteers whose key contributions were essential in planning and running the activities.

With the ongoing reconstruction of Masjid-e-Rizwan, the success of this fundraiser is a testament to the community’s spirit and collective commitment to preserving and expanding an important place of worship in Blackburn.
