Family Fun Day Raises £42K for Blackburn Mosque Renovation

Hundreds of community members gathered at the Ivy Centre in Blackburn for a spirited day of family activities in support of Masjid-e-Rizwan, one of the town’s longstanding mosques.

Designed to gather funds for significant renovation work, the event saw enthusiastic participation from locals and succeeded in raising an impressive £42,000 to help fund the project.

A representative from the mosque commented, “The event was a tremendous success, buoyed by overwhelming support from our community. Our dedicated volunteers came together with passion and unity to create a truly memorable experience for all.”

The venue was transformed into a bustling marketplace where food stalls in the car park offered hot pizzas, burgers, and noodles, while indoor stands featured desserts, clothing, and handcrafted items. The lively atmosphere attracted visitors throughout the day.

Volunteers from the mosque managed the stalls and actively collected donations to support the ongoing building project at Masjid-e-Rizwan in Futhergate. Notable figures, including Blackburn MP Adnan Hussain and the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Cllr Jacqueline Slater, attended the event. Additionally, popular TikTok personality Shahid Sheikh, known as Bawa, shared the festivities live with his audience.

The renovation project, undertaken by the Kokni Muslim Association, will provide a larger prayer space to accommodate up to 450 worshippers. The entire project is being funded by generous community donations.

The spokesperson further explained, “Each year, we challenge our event organizers to innovate and enhance the experience, and this year they truly excelled. Their creativity and attention to detail were evident in every aspect of the day, culminating in the remarkable achievement of raising £42,000.”

Special appreciation was extended to the young volunteers whose contributions were crucial in both planning and executing the day’s activities. Their enthusiasm, along with the support of countless families, made the event an outstanding success.

With the mosque’s rebuilding well underway, the success of the family fun day highlights the strong community spirit and commitment to preserving and expanding a cherished place of worship in Blackburn.
