Family Fun Day Raises £42K for Blackburn Mosque Renovation

A Community Celebration Fuels Mosque Renovation

Hundreds of local residents gathered at the Ivy Centre in Blackburn for a vibrant family fun day dedicated to supporting Masjid-e-Rizwan, one of the town’s longstanding mosques. The event, designed to raise funds for a significant rebuilding project, saw overwhelming community participation and collected an impressive £42,000 in donations.

A Day of Festivities and Unity

The venue was transformed into a festive market, with the car park bustling with food vendors offering freshly baked pizzas, burgers, and noodles. Inside, a variety of stalls presented desserts, clothing, and handcrafted gifts, drawing continuous crowds throughout the day. Volunteers from the mosque managed the stands and actively encouraged donations to support the mosque’s redevelopment.

Notable guests such as the local Member of Parliament and the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen attended, while a popular social media figure enhanced the event’s modern appeal by livestreaming the festivities. This blend of traditional community spirit and contemporary outreach helped create a memorable experience for all who attended.

Looking Toward the Future

The renovation, led by the Kokni Muslim Association, is set to considerably expand the mosque’s capacity, providing a larger prayer space to accommodate up to 450 worshippers. Entirely funded by community contributions, the project reflects the collective commitment to preserving and enhancing a cherished place of worship.

A spokesperson expressed deep gratitude for the event’s success, noting that the dedicated team of volunteers—especially the young organizers—ensured every detail was thoughtfully planned. Their continuous efforts to improve the event year after year have played a crucial role in achieving such an extraordinary fundraising milestone.

The ongoing transformation of Masjid-e-Rizwan stands as a testament to Blackburn’s strong community spirit and its dedication to sustaining important cultural and religious landmarks.
