Synagogue Fire in Jerusalem Affects Former Chief Rabbi’s Congregation

Early Sunday morning, emergency services in Jerusalem responded to a fire at a synagogue located in the Sanhedria neighborhood. Police, along with fire and rescue teams, quickly arrived at the scene to contain the blaze.

According to local reports, the synagogue is associated with Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, who served as the Sephardi chief rabbi from 2013 until 2024. Authorities noted that the incident occurred shortly after they received calls regarding a nearby residence, where a cross had been vandalized with graffiti.

The investigation is being conducted by both police and the Jerusalem District Forensic Unit. Officials confirmed that the fire has been fully contained and that no injuries or casualties have been reported.
