Fire Erupts at Former Chief Rabbi’s Jerusalem Synagogue

Fire Engulfs Historic Synagogue in Jerusalem

Early Sunday morning in the Sanhedria neighborhood of Jerusalem, emergency responders rushed to a synagogue after a fire was reported on the premises. Local law enforcement confirmed that teams from the police, fire, and rescue services quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation.

Sources indicate that the affected synagogue is associated with Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, the former Sephardi chief rabbi who served from 2013 until 2024. The incident has drawn particular attention due to the synagogue’s historical and cultural significance.

Prior to the fire, authorities received calls reporting that an image of a cross had been spray painted on the door of a nearby residence. This detail has prompted a joint investigation by the police and the Jerusalem District Forensic Unit.

Officials have since contained the blaze and confirmed that there were no injuries. The investigation into the origin and potential motives behind both the fire and the graffiti is still ongoing.
