Greta Thunberg and Friends Decline to View October 7 Massacre Footage

Greta Thunberg and Selfie Yacht Activists Refuse to View Film on Hamas Atrocities

Activists aboard a Gaza‐bound vessel, including Greta Thunberg, were taken into a screening room upon arriving near Ashdod—about 125 miles off Israel’s coast—to watch a film detailing the brutal events of October 7. The film, which graphically depicted Hamas’s assault that claimed over 1,000 lives in Israel, was met with strong objection by several of the detainees.

According to Israel’s defense minister, the group was ushered into the room with the expectation that they would view the harrowing footage. However, once the content was revealed, Thunberg and some of her fellow activists refused to continue watching. The minister criticized the group sharply, arguing that they appeared to disregard the suffering of the victims, favoring instead those responsible for the brutal acts.

Following the incident, Thunberg, along with two other activists and a journalist, accepted deportation. The detained 22‐year‐old was subsequently flown back to Sweden via France, while other members of the flotilla who declined to leave remain in detention pending their hearings.

Additional reports highlighted that video footage from October 7 showed Hamas militants abducting a bound and injured woman. The activists maintained that their presence on the vessel was a form of protest against what they described as a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza—a conflict that erupted over 20 months ago following a series of violent events.

Israeli authorities have long argued that vessels heading to Gaza break the country’s naval blockade. In a statement dismissing the episode as a media stunt, officials noted that several well-known figures onboard had been sharing smiling photos for social media, downplaying the severity of the situation.
