Earthquake Shakes Dali in Southwest China

An earthquake registering a magnitude of 5.0 rocked the city of Dali in the southwestern province of Yunnan early Thursday morning. According to the China Earthquake Networks Centre, the seismic event occurred at 4:13 a.m. local time (2013 GMT) and struck at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers.

Data shared by the center via its WeChat account reveals that over the past five years, there have been 118 earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or higher within a 200-kilometer radius of this epicenter. Notably, the most significant tremor during this period was a 6.4-magnitude quake recorded about 68 kilometers from the current epicenter in May 2021.
