PM affirms Iran’s complete right to self-defense amid Israeli actions

PM Shehbaz: Iran Fully Entitled to Defend Itself Following Israeli Aggression

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian at a press conference

On Saturday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his strong support for Iran in the wake of what he described as unjustified and unprovoked Israeli attacks. The Prime Minister emphasized that Iran is entirely justified in pursuing self-defense, as established by Article 51 of the UN Charter.

During a telephone discussion with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, Shehbaz sharply criticized the Israeli strikes, stating that they represent an infringement on Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He expressed profound sorrow over the loss of innocent lives resulting from the assaults and recalled Pakistan’s previous backing of Iran during an emergency session at the UN Security Council.

Shehbaz went on to denounce Israel’s provocative behavior and risky actions, warning that such measures pose a serious threat to both regional and global stability. He also condemned the ongoing, unchecked campaign against the Palestinians, arguing that Israel’s actions are both illegal and reckless.

The Prime Minister called upon the international community and the United Nations to take urgent, tangible steps to halt these aggressive moves and restore peace. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to fostering regional stability and affirmed that his country is ready to contribute to efforts aimed at de-escalation and peaceful resolution.

In response, President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s solidarity, noting that the gesture highlights the longstanding and brotherly ties between Iran and Pakistan. The Iranian leader also detailed Iran’s perspective on the unfolding crisis and urged closer cooperation among nations—especially those in the Islamic community—to counter emerging threats. Both leaders agreed to maintain close contact as events continue to evolve.

The recent escalation in the Middle East marks a new and dangerous phase following a series of Israeli strikes that targeted high-ranking Iranian military officials and prominent nuclear scientists. Initial reports indicate severe casualties among Iran’s military leadership and significant damage to its air defenses, while Israel appeared to sustain only minor losses at first. However, the situation quickly intensified when Iran launched a missile barrage that reportedly overwhelmed Israel’s defense systems, further deepening concerns about a broader regional conflict.
