Saudi Arabia and Qatar Vow Financial Aid for Syria

Saudi Arabia and Qatar Commit to Bolstering Syria’s Economic Recovery

Saudi Arabia and Qatar have declared a coordinated financial initiative aimed at supporting Syria’s public sector. The announcement comes as the region witnesses renewed efforts to reintegrate Syria into regional economic and political affairs.

During a visit to Damascus, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani. At a joint press conference, the minister affirmed that both nations will jointly finance various initiatives to benefit public sector employees in Syria.

Speaking on the matter, the Saudi minister conveyed greetings from prominent Saudi leaders to President Al-Sharaa along with well wishes for Syria’s future stability, security, and prosperity. He underlined Saudi Arabia’s commitment to helping restore Syria’s traditional role in the region, emphasizing that deepening economic ties and promoting stability remain key objectives.

A high-level Saudi delegation accompanied Prince Faisal, including economic experts and government advisors, as part of the broader strategy to revitalize regional partnerships. Their agenda included visits to significant cultural landmarks, notably the Umayyad Mosque, highlighting the historic connections between the nations.

The collaborative financial aid follows previous support from Saudi Arabia and Qatar, which assisted in addressing Syria’s outstanding financial obligations at international financial institutions. The Saudi minister also lauded recent actions by Western nations to ease sanctions, noting that these measures are expected to restore confidence among Syrians and rejuvenate an economy that has been stalled for many years.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani welcomed the initiative as a meaningful step toward establishing a sustainable economic alliance. He underscored that Syria’s future is anchored in its economic independence and mutual interests with regional partners. Recent agreements with international companies in the energy sector, including a significant investment pact, further reflect the nation’s commitment to self-driven reconstruction.

Prince Faisal reiterated Saudi Arabia’s long-term commitment to supporting Syria’s journey toward reconstruction and economic renewal. He noted an increasing interest from Saudi investors who see emerging opportunities for bilateral cooperation that benefit both Syria and Saudi Arabia.
