UGC Unveils New Directive on Public Self-Disclosure for Higher Education

By Babushahi Bureau

New Delhi, October 8, 2025 – The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced a comprehensive set of guidelines requiring higher education institutions across India to adopt a Public Self-Disclosure system. This initiative is designed to increase transparency, bolster accountability, and improve the accessibility of information related to institutional management.

Released on October 6, 2025, the official document titled “Guidelines on Public Self-Disclosure by Higher Education Institutions” outlines the requirement for universities and colleges to make vital data available on their official websites. This information covers aspects such as governance, academic programs, financial details, and infrastructural facilities.

The new framework mandates regular updates on several key metrics, including accreditation statuses, faculty numbers, student enrollment figures, fee structures, audit reports, and records of research activities. The goal is to provide a clear snapshot of institutional performance for current and prospective students, as well as their families.

UGC representatives have highlighted that this move aligns with the aims of the National Education Policy 2020. By enabling more informed decision-making, the guidelines also aim to reinforce institutional integrity and promote good governance practices throughout India’s higher education landscape.

Institutions have been urged to implement these disclosure requirements swiftly to help build greater trust and transparency within the sector.
