Ukrainian Drones Strike Western Kursk Region

Early on Friday, regional officials reported that Ukrainian drones launched a nighttime assault on Russia’s western Kursk area. The attack resulted in significant damage to a local hospital and several apartment buildings, with at least one person sustaining injuries, according to the regional governor.

Ongoing Clashes Near the Border

In the nearby Sumy region of Ukraine, the regional governor described renewed clashes in border villages where Russian forces have been actively capturing territory. The situation remains fluid, with control over various areas frequently shifting between opposing sides.

Buffer Zone Ambitions

Amid these developments, Russian President Vladimir Putin has reiterated his intention to establish a buffer zone in the Sumy region. This strategic area, which played a role in last year’s Ukrainian incursion into Kursk, is viewed as critical for enhancing Russia’s defensive positioning.
