U.S. Defense Agency Employee Arrested Over Alleged Classified Leak
A 28-year-old IT specialist from the Defense Intelligence Agency was taken into custody on Thursday after being accused of attempting to pass along sensitive national defense information to a foreign government. The Justice Department confirmed the arrest, stating that the individual in question is employed within the agency’s Insider Threat Division and holds a Top Secret security clearance.
According to authorities, the suspect offered to share classified details with a foreign entity considered friendly. During an unintentional conversation with an FBI agent, he revealed his intention to provide the information because he felt misaligned with the current administration’s values. He further expressed a desire to obtain citizenship elsewhere, indicating his belief that conditions in his own country were unlikely to improve over time.
The case is currently under investigation as federal officials continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempt to compromise national security.
